Introducing the covers of our Indigenous double issue
Dear friends:
Naomi McIlwraith, Dorothy Thunder, and the rest of The Polyglot magazine team would like to thank you for the incredible submissions you sent us. We received art and poetry featuring Indigenous languages from across Turtle Island. Naomi and Dorothy enjoyed curating a double issue—nimitêyaniy and nitêh—showcasing 36 brilliant Indigenous poets and artists.
Here are the gorgeous covers for nimitêyaniy (with art by Lana Whiskeyjack) and nitêh (with art by Jade Roberts). The titles were inspired by an artist statement by Lana Whiskeyjack. The words correspond to tongue and heart in nêhiyawêwin (Cree). We can't wait for you to read these issues! More details coming soon—stay tuned!
In nimitêyaniy, the contributors are: Tanya Ball, Marilyn Dumont, Andrea Fritz, Saltwater Hank, Zoë Johnson, Taran Kootenhayoo, Naomi McIlwraith, Brenda Morency, Randy Morin, Tiffany Morris, Antoine Mountain, Tamara Pearl, Jennifer Reeser, Anna Marie Sewell, Terri Suntjens, Dorothy Thunder, Joshlynn Thunder, Matthew James Weigel, and Lana Whiskeyjack.
In nitêh, the contributors are: Karrie Auger, Tawahum Bige, Cécile Boucher Howse, Carly Chartier, Molly Chisaakay, Lauren Crazybull, S. Giroux, Anita Lafferty, Gabrielle Lamontagne, Eva Lemaire, Judy Letendre Hilbert, Naomi McIlwraith, Francine Merasty, Kai Minosh Pyle, Stan Nochasak, Daniel Poitras, Corinne Riedel, Jade Roberts, Dorothy Thunder, and Lana Whiskeyjack.
Thank you to all who submitted. We hope to publish you in the future.
